31 January 2014

So we are already on the last day of January 2014 and this month I have completed a total of six scrapbook layouts. I always detail my layouts in my Studio Calico gallery, along with the products used. I also posted a flipagram on my instagram :)

Here are a few of the layouts ~

happy new year !

project life 2014 | week 4

29 January 2014

This week saw the arrival of my Studio Calico Copper Mountain project life monthly kit with the Union Meadows add on kit AND my Freckled Fawn *OhDeerMe* monthly embellishment kit, so I was spoilt for choice when selecting for my spread :)

Our weather is still playing games, one minute it is really mild and the next we have snowfall ! Unfortunately we are not getting lots of snow so that we can get the snowboards and the luges out, it normally snows in the morning, the sun comes up and then the snow is gone by lunchtime :(

Friday was spent at Lyon for Zachary's diabetes check up followed by a visit to Ikea for lunch and shopping. The boys are producing a project at school about Native American tribes so we had fun constructing some teepees and totems. When I discovered the world card in my Studio Calico kit I thought it would be perfect to map the different parts of the world that I have been lucky enough to visit. So I had fun embellishing that :)

Finally having created my titles pages using triangles I thought I would continue the theme here and create a couple of pockets like that again. I will sew diagonally on the two pockets, but not until I have created next week's spread and have the cards chosen for the back side.

cards | stenciled | part 3

28 January 2014

The final day of the stenciled class taught us to take it one step further !

Here is my card that I produced from creating my own stencil using my Silhouette Cameo machine. I cut a Studio Calico feather.png file onto thick cardstock and then used Wendy Vecchi's embossing paste. After carefully removing the stencil and before the embossing paste dried I added some black and pink American Crafts Zing embossing powder. I waited until the paste had dried and then used my heat gun on the powder. I completed the card with a gold rub-on sentiment and some little pink candies ~

Here is a close up of the feather and the glitter ~

Love that sparkle !

Really enjoyed the classes over the last couple of days, so much inspiration and ideas.

Thanks for looking and see you later in the week for my Project Life week 4 spread.x

cards | stenciled | part 2

27 January 2014

The third day of the Stenciled class saw us creating texture and dimension with pastes.

I'm already a big fan of the Wendy Vecchi embossing paste so I immediately jumped at the chance to create a couple of cards utilising this technique. For my first card I used a template from The Crafters Workshop along with Mister Huey mists and Heidi Swapp colour shine. Once it was all dry I added a ribbon and a stamped sentiment using gold glitter embossing powder. To finish I included some vellum and gold thread ~

My next card was constructed in a similar way to my recent i love love love you card. I finished by adding some twine and an embossed sentiment ~

I really enjoyed these classes this weekend, thanks for reading.x

This weekend I am participating in the Stenciled class at Online Card Classes.

Day 1 saw us working with inks and masks and yesterday we played with template techniques.

I created this really quick card using a mask from Studio Calico and my watercolour pencils. I then stamped a greeting from the Spaulding Bowl January Studio Calico card kit add on and added some simple star embellishments from Freckled Fawn. Quick and easy for some weekend crafting :)

project life 2014 | week 3

22 January 2014

Week 3 is here and I took some time over the weekend to create a unique title card.

Here's a quick tutorial of how I created it.  First I painted watercolours on to heavy card stock and let this dry completely. Then I added a thin layer of gesso and then quickly placing a stencil over the top and wiping away the gesso to reveal the paint. When this was completely dry I trimmed down the cardstock and then stitched this onto a plain 4x6 card and added my embellishments.

The arrow, the star and the number are from my Freckled Fawn monthly OhDeerMe kit, the striped candies are from Skipping5 and the alphas are from Heidi Swapp.  I was really pleased with the outcome as I had picked out some pink filler cards for the left hand side with some more muted pink and light green colours for the right hand side of the spread.

Here's the double page spread ~

Zachary won his first football medal and proudly took it to school to show his friends ! Molly lost a tooth, I made some cards and Noah made a little scrapbook too for his memories.

My filler cards and embellishments are from Studio Calico Blue Note and Cuppa project life kits, Freckled Fawn's OhDeerMe monthly kits, Elle's Studio tags, stamps from Studio Calico, Chic Tags, CitrusTwistKits and glitter words from Heidi Swapp.

The calendar card is by Paislee Press and I added a freebie month script by Caylee Grey in PSE.

Thanks for looking and see you next week.x

cards | love | part 2

21 January 2014

Still keeping with the theme of love and with Valentines Day just around the corner I have a couple of more cards to show.

First up is one with an embossed background. This was created with a love heart stencil from SimonSaysStamp. Over this I applied embossing paste mixed with a couple of shades of pink acrylic paint. The paste I can recommend for this is by Wendy Vecchi, it produces a consistent finish. Make sure that the stencil is secure before applying the paste, I used washi tape to secure mine. I then added some twine and a gold transfer by Pebbles and a heart from the DearLizzy collection ~

Just the right amount of pink and gold !

My second card also has embossing and vellum! This time I stamped the sentiment and the hearts with Versamark watermark and applied American Crafts Zing embossing powder in glitter gold. I then used my heat gun very gently so as not to curl the vellum. I then stamped on the reverse of the vellum to create a softer finish ~

The sentiment for this stamp is from the *Key to My Heart* set by Clearly Besotted Stamps.

Thanks for reading, I hope I provided some inspiration :)

cards | love | part 1

20 January 2014

I have been playing around with some card making stamping and die cutting as Valentines Day is approaching.

First up today is a card I made using a set that I was lucky enough to win very recently in a generous give away by clearly besotted stamps.

I added some washi tape and an arrow paperclip, both from Freckled Fawn and some candies from Queen&Co.

Thanks for looking and I'll be back tomorrow with an embossed love heart card :)

project life 2014 | week 2

17 January 2014

So here we are with the first full week of the year and my first double page spread.

To start off the week we had snow, which was a surprise and Molly took the opportunity to build a snowman in the morning. In the afternoon the snow had pretty much melted so I'm glad I took a photo when I did ! Monday was back to school after the Christmas break and the weather was incredibly mild. Wednesday afternoon was above 10 degrees Celsius - in January - in the French Alps ! We also had a gorgeous sunrise one morning over the mountain behind the house. I finished up my December Daily album, thoroughly enjoyed my first time participating and definitely plan to do it again this year.

I saw an idea in the Studio Calico gallery about taking a landscape photo once a month and seeing how the seasons change the view, so I snapped one for January and journaled about it. My husband had the week of work and so trees were pruned and hedges were laid. Finally I created a filler card around my OneLittleWord for 2014. I have chosen Balance and look forward to exploring this further during the course of the year.

My pages ~

And as a spread ~

This week I created my pages using cards from the CitrusTwist monthly pocket life kit and Studio Calico Project Life kit. I also used tags from Elle's Studio and embellishments and stamps from Freckled Fawn, Evalicious and Echo Park. I also used my Silhouette Cameo to cut some feathers for the stamped card on the right hand page.

Thank you for reading and see you next week.

project life 2014 | week 1

12 January 2014

This year I have changed my weeks to end on a Sunday. This is so I can group our weekends together and then complete my pages after the weekend. Also November 30 2014 falls on a Sunday, so that will tie in nicely with starting my December Daily album on the next Monday.

I'm sticking with the 12x12 format this year and hoping to do a double page spread on Design A pocket pages, possibly adding inserts for busier weeks and *week in the life*. My first layout or *week 1* runs from 1-5 January 2014 and just takes up one side of a double page spread - but this fits in nicely after my double page title page (see previous post).

So here is week 1 ~

I am keeping it nice and simple this year, lots of white space and fun embellishments.

Thanks for looking and see you next week.

project life 2014 | title pages

10 January 2014

Happy New Year :)

I missed my PL pages during December, although compiling my DecemberDaily was amazing, so I was impatient to get back to my process.

The moment I saw Elise Cripe's title pages I knew that this was how I wanted the introduction to my 2014 album to look like. And it was so much fun planning and executing and ensuring the cards were cut the right way ! I machine sewed up the pockets too, ensuring everything stays in place.

So here are my two title pages ~

I used cards from Studio Calico PL Blue Note kit, Elles Studio tags, Becky Higgins Honey core kit and Citrus Twist Pocket Life kits.  Embellishments are from Freckled Fawn's OhDeerMe monthly kit, Skipping5, evalicious and Studio Calico.

Thanks for reading.x
